WHAT TO EXPECT IN A LAMDA LESSON

There is such a wide range of technical and interpretive skills to learn for each LAMDA discipline and so with that in mind, I like to prioritise that the skills appropriate to the chosen exam are taught before approaching the LAMDA syllabus itself. For example, before we begin to work on the exam monologues/duologues/poem or speeches, I will spend time working with the student on:

  • Audibility

  • Clarity of diction

  • Building a character

  • Movement

  • Communication

  • Confidence

  • Improvisation

  • Delivery

  • Reading

  • Exploration of language

  • Spatial awareness and eye contact

By learning these skills before we approach the exam material, the student will have a solid foundation upon which to tackle the unique challenges and expectations of their chosen exam and grade level.

Below I have outlined what a 30 minute lesson might look like in terms of structure. â€‹Each lesson is carefully curated and tailored to the individuals needs and goals.

I aim to make learning fun and engaging and ultimately, my goal is to help each student feel safe, supported and inspired. â€‹

Warm-Up

Lessons will begin with warm-up games which will include the full body as well as facial and vocal exercises to help students get ready to rehearse and perform.

A good warm-up will help students relax and feel prepared for the lesson ahead.

During these warm-ups, students will have guidance with clarity, diction and projection.

Game or task indirectly linked to the exam

For example, if a student is focusing on acting in their LAMDA lessons, this section might include improvisations, character games that focus on physicality, voice and spacial awareness.

This section allows the student/s to be playful and expressive whilst expanding their imagination, confidence and concentration.

Rehearsal

Before exam pieces are selected, this will be a time to explore new texts and experiment with performing different styles of writing.

Once exam pieces have been chosen, this will be our dedicated time to practice and play as we work towards the exam date.

Theory

The knowledge or theory aspect of the examination is extensively covered to ensure complete codence of what to expect on the exam day.

This is also a time to help students feel confident with expressing their thoughts and opinions as well as having practice in question and answer scenarios to help with their listening experience.
